Moose Meadows - Limber Pine - Kruger Rock
Chosen Trail
Yvonne and I went for a short ride the first night. We took Moose Meadows Trail to Limber Pine Trail to Kruger Rock for a fairly fast ride our first night. We covered around 4.1 miles in about 1.5 hrs. This was a really easy but interesting evening ride. I love loop rides because you don't have to back-track and it is more interesting.
Trail Experience
We started off to the right down the road to reach the Homestead Meadows trailhead. The trail to the right of the trailhead is the Moose Meadows Trail.
The main road to previous cabins was closed off for reforestation. The cabins had been relocated and the trail started to the right of the old road. You could go through a narrow opening or step over some logs. We opted to jump the logs.
We went around some turns then came out on a beautiful meadow. Sam was eager to go and my photos are blurry as he dived for grass or wanted to catch up with Echo.
We climbed until we were up on a ridge and could see the mountains in the distance.
The trail fork was well marked and labeled Limber Pine. We continued to the right. Going to the left takes you to the homestead meadows trail.
There were some great photo ops.
The trail continued to weave through the trees. It is stunning, quiet and peaceful!
This is an example of the flat rocks we had to walk across. It is not bad but a little slippery for horses with shoes.
We stayed straight at the next fork then went right at the Kruger Rock fork. Every fork was well marked and we were not worried about getting lost. This is the 2nd fork we passed and we went straight. Going right would have taken us back to the campsite by the restrooms.
This is my favorite stretch of the trail! The stretch between the fork to the restrooms and Kruger Rock. It was scenic, shady and rocky enough to be interesting but not difficult.
This is the 3rd fork we passed and we went right to go down Kruger Rock and head back to the main camp road. We rode downhill between some aspens then the trail opened up. It was a really short ride back to the road.
Instead of going all the way down on the trail we cut right here across a beautiful meadow. This was the longest shortcut ever! I could not get Sam to walk more than two steps at a time before he dove for grass. We took a break and let our horses enjoy it, but stay on the trail and keep walking if you see a park ranger!
We finally made it through the meadow and back to the main road. We walked down the road to the Kruger Equestrian Campsites.
