Trail Map
Google map is the best way to see the interwoven horse trails. Most of the trails go between backyards in the Broomfield neighboorhood.

Footing
Most of the official horse trail is grassy and soft. We did walk a short distance on the road to get to the main trail.
Horse Hazards
This is an urban trail that goes between yards and crosses streets. It is full of lawn mowers, barking dogs, playing children and walkers.
Chosen Trail
From Sagewood Stables I traveled north on Pecos and took a left on 152nd street. These roads are not very busy and have very large, wide shoulders of grass to walk on. At 152nd and Zuni there is a marked equestrian trail that winds between the backyards of the beautiful houses in the neighborhood. Many houses have horse property and almost all of them have barking dogs. We walked down Spruce Meadows Drive to pick up the equestrian trail going up a big hill. You can also take the Broomfield trail, the dotted line in the map and then pick up the horse trail behind the culd-a-sac. Technically, horses are not allowed on the Broomfield trail but we have walked besides the paved trail and the locals didn't seem to mind. Behind the neighborhood the horse trail can be picked up and runs south up a big hill, crosses Spruce Street and travels east through some backyards. I ride Sam and pony Bailey on this trail at a slow walk/trot and ride for 1.5 hours.
Trail Experience
Our trail officially starts at the intersection of Zuni and 152nd street. It is a marked equestrian trail that has lovely white fences and weaves between the beautiful backyards.
Following the trail from 152nd you come out at an intersection of the broomfield trail. We went right and walked along Spruce street to follow the trail between the white fences up the hill.
Following the road we continued up the horse trail up the hill into the couldasac.
We walked down the road through the neighborhood then took the horse trail to the outside of the neighborhood to pick up the horse trail.
Circling west, then south we cantered up this great hill on the outside of the neighborhood.
Going south down the hill we passed a cute barn, crossed 152nd and picked up the horse trail again.
We crossed 152nd and picked up the equestrian trail.
The trail zig-zags around a canal.
You can continue west or go left/south to continue through the neighborhood and back yards.
This is a great place to canter down to the corner. Then the trail opens up at Zuni.
From here we have a nice walk back to our barn.
Rating
Moderately Difficult. This trail is full of urban obstacles including barking dogs, lawnmowers, backyard patio furniture. At the same time it is amazing to find a horse trail in the middle of Broomfield. The neighboors love seeing horses on the trail and you don't have to worry about complaints about manure. I love being able to ride on a horse trail straight from my barn.
